FAQ - Citations

  1. USU Citations can be appealed within 14 days of the issue date of the citation.
  2. Meter tickets can only be appealed if the meter is not functional or becomes nonfunctional while parked there and a citation is received. An appeal must be made within 14 days of the date of issue. The meter is tested for malfunctions. Getting a ticket for being parked at the meter for any unpaid length of time is not a valid appeal.
  1. They do not affect your insurance, driving record or go to the city/state for warrant. They stay on file with the university and show as unpaid. Having unpaid citations can result in your USU records being held and/or the vehicle being booted/towed.
  1. No. The price of the citation remains at what it is at the time the appeal is made. It stays that price until one week after the appeal has been finalized and the patron has been notified of the ruling.
  1. Yes. After 3 unpaid citations the vehicles is booted.
  2. We reserve the right to boot or impound any vehicle parked in an unsafe or suspicious area on campus, or if the vehicle is not legal to drive, ie; unregistered, no license plate, involved in a crime, etc.
  1. You can pay online with Visa, Master Card, and Discover at Parking.usu.edu and click on Pay Citation. You will need the citation number or the license plate of the vehicle that was cited.
  2. Mail the citation with payment (checks only - NO CASH) in the yellow envelope provided with the citation.
  3. Pay in person Mon-Fri 8:00 am - 4:30 pm in the Parking and Transportation Office with cash, check or credit card.
  1. There are two ways to appeal a USU parking citation.
  1. Appeals must be made within 14 calendar days from the date of issue. Failure to appeal within 14 days shall be deemed as a waiver of the right to do so.
  1. Up to 14 days. If you have not received a response to your appeal after 14 days please contact the Parking Office at 435-797-3414.

  1. If it has been over 14 days and you choose to have the response emailed to you check your junk mail first. If there is no record of the email call the Parking and Transportation office 435-797-7275 and they can look up the appeal.
  1. As a courtesy, notices of citation reminders are sent every 30 days for all outstanding citations. Citations are placed on the vehicle window at the time of citation. Once they leave the officers hand it is the responsibility of the vehicle owner. Due to the fact that the citation is now over 30 days it cannot be appealed and needs to be paid.
  1. Vehicles parked at expired meters can recive citations every two hours they are parked at an unpaid meter.
  1. If you are a student you cannot receive your transcript or diploma until the account balance is paid in full.
  2. Any vehicle that is found on campus with 3 or more unpaid citation will be booted and only released when the balance is paid in full.
  1. All unpaid citations will be processed against state license files to determine ownership, after which they will be checked against university student and faculty/staff information.
